Long term tenants

As you are probably aware, if you have seen any of our recent marketing, Scott & Stapleton have been trading for over 30 years. Opening the office in 1988, Tim Scott, amongst others, specialised in sales, lettings and management, all of which are still the staple of the business.

One of the first properties that we had to rent was a bungalow in Beck Road, Canvey Island which was available for £300 per calendar month. A delightful little detached property with 1 bedroom, lounge, kitchen, bathroom, garage & garden. Understandably it was snapped up by an elderly gentleman who moved to be closer to his daughter who lived nearby.

Little did we or the landlords know just how settled the tenant would become and with great sadness this week he vacated the property after 29 happy years.

He loved living there so much that the only thing that could persuade him to move was his failing health unfortunately and it was with huge emotion for us and them that the daughter returned the keys after such a long and happy tenancy.

Long term tenants like that become like friends with staff members looking forward to carrying out routine inspections and renewing the tenancy agreements catching up again with the tenants. It became the norm for the tenant to ask Alyson to give him a lift to the shops or in to Leigh after carrying out her three monthly inspection.

So it was with a tinge of sadness that we re-marketed the property for rent. This time for £700 per calendar month. An increase of 130% from 1990 when the last tenant moved in!

As before it has been snapped up and looks like going to an elderly lady who I am sure will also spend many happy years there.
